Between five dry rub flavors and 21 sauces, ranging from mild to Wild, as well as multiple dips, there is no shortage of ways to dress up your chicken at Buffalo Wild Wings. While the chain offers everything from Honey BBQ to Caribbean Jerk and Mango Habanero wing sauces, it also has the flavor that is as synonymous with wings as peanut butter is to jelly: ranch.
If you’re a ranch lover, the wing restaurant currently offers a Buffalo Ranch wing sauce and a regular ranch dip. But these days, simple ranch dressing isn’t anything special. Nearly every chain has a ranch sauce. So Buffalo Wild Wings is introducing a rather bizarre ranch-flavored topping to offer you a new way to eat your ranch on wings. And that new item might just remind you of a favorite childhood candy.
Buffalo Wild Wings Releases New Poppin’ Ranch Savory Candy
Pop Rocks come in many flavors, but a savory option is not one of them. However, if you’ve ever wanted the sensation of Pop Rocks’ sizzle and pop, but in a salty, savory flavor, then Buffalo Wild Wings has the solution for you.
Meet Poppin’ Ranch, a “savory ranch popping candy” that you can sprinkle on top of your wings—or any other favorite B-Dubs menu item—for a rather unique eating experience.
Buffalo Wild Wings’ new Poppin’ Ranch comes in little yellow packets, just like a seasoning mix, but what’s inside is more akin to popping candy than a ranch packet. You’ll, of course, taste ranch flavoring, but the ranch is physically going to pop in your mouth. You should be able to feel and hear this experience while chomping down on a wing or french fry covered in Poppin’ Ranch.
This new topping makes eating wings a “multi-sensory” experience, according to the restaurant. As Tristan Meline, Buffalo Wild Wings’ brand president, describes, “It’s an unexpected sensory experience that sounds wild, tastes delicious, and has to be experienced to be believed.”
Poppin’ Ranch packets will pop into participating Buffalo Wild Wings restaurants on July 20, but they aren’t a permanent menu item—they’ll only be available until they sell out.
To say we were skeptical about Poppin’ Ranch would be an understatement, but for 99 cents per savory popping candy packet, it seems worth it to try out the experience at least once. Our editor, Bailey Fink, recently tried Buffalo Wild Wings’ Poppin’ Ranch, and here is her honest review.
Our Honest Review of Buffalo Wild Wings’ Poppin’ Ranch
Opening the packet of Poppin’ Ranch, it looks and smells exactly like a Hidden Valley Ranch packet. The only difference? When you add it to your food, it starts to crackle and pop in your mouth.
Trying Buffalo Wild Wings’ Poppin’ Ranch straight out of the package, it has the savory ranch flavors, but with a bit of sweetness—likely because one of the main ingredients in the “carbonated crystals” is sugar. However, once you add it to your food, it loses some of the flavor power—just like what would happen if you simply sprinkled ranch over your food instead of dipping it into ranch dressing.
Adding the Poppin’ Ranch to your wings, sliders, and fried pickles is a distinct experience because of its popping candy-like nature. However, if you’re dipping your Buffalo Wild Wings favorites in ranch to cut the heat, the Poppin’ Ranch alone won’t do the trick. Instead, I’d recommend adding the Poppin’ Ranch for a touch more ranch flavor and fun texture, while also ordering a side of ranch for the creamy, cooling dip.
