The Tampa Bay Buccaneers brought back their 1976 white creamsicle throwback jerseys last season to celebrate the franchise’s 50th anniversary.
The uniforms pay homage to the Buccaneers’ inaugural 1976 season, featuring the franchise’s original road look with white jerseys and pants, orange numbers, and the iconic creamsicle helmet.
The intention was for the uniforms to return for one season only, to celebrate 50 seasons of Bucs football. But due to the overwhelmingly positive response from fans and players alike, Tampa Bay threw a curveball and announced the white creamsicles will return in 2026 by popular demand.
Buccaneers to wear 1976 throwbacks in Week 13 vs Chargers
The Buccaneers deployed quarterback Baker Mayfield in a 70s-style commercial promo, where he revealed that the beloved uniforms will return once more this season in a Week 13 showdown with the Los Angeles Chargers on Dec. 6.
Last season, the “creamsicle on ice” look was worn twice — and Tampa Bay went 2-0 in those games.
They defeated the eventual Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks on the road in a 38-35 thriller, and also defeated the New York Jets 29-27.
The white creamsicle throwbacks quickly became one of the NFL’s most popular uniforms after their debut last season. Tampa Bay’s showdown against the Seahawks, who also donned their throwback uniforms, was deemed by many to be one of the best uniform matchups in recent NFL history. The positive reception made it clear to the organization that these uniforms couldn’t just be a one-and-done.
Hopefully the uniforms bring their good mojo with them again in 2026, as the Chargers are a formidable opponent and the late-season matchup could carry serious playoff implications for Tampa Bay.
