Brighton, N.Y. — The Brighton Police Department showed off new technology on Wednesday that it will use to fight crime thanks to a technology grant from New York State.
Brighton police highlighted these high-tech crime-fighting tools, including a 3D laser scanner for crime scenes and thermal imaging cameras.
The investment is a big boost for public safety.
"In many many communities, their budgets weren't keeping up with the technology needs whether it's storage and software or the hardware we're talking about today, this grant program, which is the first of it's kind, is providing the small police departments and even the large ones with what they need to get the job done," said Joe Popcun, executive deputy commissioner of the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services.
Investments also include virtual reality training systems and are made possible through Governor Hochul’s Law Enforcement Technology grant program (LETECH).
