Bradley Beal might be getting a chance to sing “Sweet Caroline.”
The Boston Celtics have emerged as a new potential landing spot for the former All-Star guard Beal, Bleacher Report’s Jake Fischer reported on Tuesday. Fischer adds that the Miami Heat are also in the mix for Beal.
A three-time NBA All-Star and a former All-NBA selection, Beal is an unrestricted free agent after opting out of his contract with the LA Clippers earlier this offseason. Now 33 years old, Beal missed the significant majority of last season due to hip surgery.
Several weeks ago, we learned that Beal and the Heat shared some mutual interest in a partnership. While that may still be the case, it looks like Beal may also have an opportunity elsewhere in the East with the Celtics.
The connection in Boston certainly makes sense. Most notably, Beal shared a close relationship with Celtics star Jayson Tatum, his fellow St. Louis, Mo. native who has openly spoken out about the possibility of an NBA team-up with Beal.
There would obviously be some risk with Beal, who is coming off a major injury and was already showing signs of rapid decline during his previous stint with the Phoenix Suns. But Beal was once a 30-ppg scorer and could fill a void for the Celtics in the aftermath of the Jaylen Brown trade (assuming that Beal is willing to settle for what will likely be a veteran’s minimum contract).
