Boruto: Two Blue Vortexis officially now on hiatus. Thankfully, fans won't have to wait long before the hit Naruto sequel series makes its return.
With the release of the latest issue of V Jump, fans were greeted with the unfortunate announcement that Boruto: Two Blue Vortex will be missing from the title's next release. The official announcement at the end of Chapter 36 in its original publication reads, "The series will be on hiatus in the next issue. It is scheduled to resume in V Jump's oversized November issue, on sale Sept. 18."
The same hiatus notice does not appear in the English editions of Chapter 36 published through VIZ Media and Manga Plus. The notice appears to be V Jump-specific editorial material printed outside the manga panels, which was omitted from the standalone English digital editions.
Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter 37 Will Return on September 18
Although the temporary hiatus is relatively brief, fans have expressed some amount of concern online following the announcement. This comes largely due to the fact that no reason for the hiatus has been given -- although many readers have inferred that both creator/supervisor Masashi Kishimoto and writer-artist Mikio Ikemoto are in good health, given the manga is scheduled to return in September.
The Boruto manga kicked off in 2016 as Boruto: Naruto Next Generations before returning in 2023 as Boruto: Two Blue Vortex. The hit Naruto sequel series began with the story of Boruto, who joins his friends in a mission to rescue his father Naruto from the Otsutsuki clan members Momoshiki and Kinshiki Otsutsuki.
While Boruto: Naruto Next Generations featured plenty of explosive battles, it also left the franchise's most iconic heroes off in something of a lurch. By the beginning of Boruto: Two Blue Vortex, both Naruto and Hinata have spent years trapped in a timeless dimension controlled by Kawaki, all while Boruto himself fights tirelessly to free his parents and uncover the truth behind the mystery at hand.
Currently, audiences are eagerly awaiting the release of the upcoming anime adaptation of Boruto: Two Blue Vortex from Studio Pierrot. While the series is widely expected by fans to premiere some time late this year or in early 2027, it likely won't be released with the same scheduling or formatting as Naruto or Boruto: Naruto Next Generations.
Studio Pierrot president Michiyuki Honma previously stated that Boruto: Two Blue Vortex may be produced and released on a seasonal schedule rather than under a weekly episode model like past series. If so, this would ensure that the production is able to adapt the original manga without catching up to the source material, which has led to extended delays and outright cancellations of numerous hit anime in previous years.
Fans can also rest assured that the upcoming Boruto: Two Blue Vortex adaptation will likely be devoid of the usual filler episodes. As noted by Boruto: Naruto Next Generations animation director, assistant animation director and key animator Kyohei Ebata, the production itself is "so serious that there's no room for original anime content."
Boruto: Two Blue Vortex is currently scheduled to return in V Jump on Sept. 18 (JST).
