Boeing secures more than 140 aircraft commitments at Farnborough Airshow

Boeing (BA) announced more than 140 aircraft commitments on the opening day of the Farnborough International Airshow, including a 100-aircraft order from aircraft lessor SMBC Aviation Capital, additional Dreamliner orders from Riyadh Air and a commitment from Philippine Airlines to acquire up to 20 widebody jets.

The announcements came as the Farnborough International Airshow opened in the United Kingdom, where aerospace manufacturers have traditionally used the event to unveil new aircraft, secure commercial orders and announce strategic partnerships. For investors, the biennial show is often an important gauge of airline demand, aircraft financing trends and manufacturers' order momentum, although many commitments announced at the event remain subject to final agreements.

SMBC orders 100 additional 737 Max aircraft

Boeing said SMBC Aviation Capital ordered 100 Boeing (BA) 737 Max aircraft, consisting of 60 737-10 jets and 40 737-8 aircraft.

The order marks SMBC's first purchase of the larger 737-10 variant. Following the agreement, the lessor said its owned, managed and committed 737 Max portfolio will total 450 aircraft.

Boeing said lessors have ordered more than 1,450 737 Max aircraft, representing about 20% of the program's backlog.

Riyadh Air expands Dreamliner fleet

Riyadh Air exercised options for 28 additional Boeing 787 Dreamliners, including 20 aircraft converted to the larger 787-10 model.

The agreement also disclosed a previously unidentified purchase of 11 Dreamliners. Boeing said Riyadh Air's firm Dreamliner order will increase to 67 aircraft once the remaining 17 airplanes covered by the options are finalized.

Riyadh Air launched commercial operations this year with six Boeing 787 aircraft. The airline said the additional aircraft will support plans to expand service to more than 100 international destinations by 2030.

Philippine Airlines commits to up to 20 Dreamliners

Philippine Airlines said it has committed to order 15 Boeing 787-10 aircraft with options to purchase five more.

The airline said the aircraft will replace older widebody jets while supporting growth across medium and long-haul routes.

Boeing said the 787-10 will complement Philippine Airlines' fleet of 10 Boeing 777 aircraft.

The agreement remains a commitment and has not yet been finalized into a firm order.

The announcements add to Boeing's commercial momentum as the company seeks to strengthen aircraft deliveries and rebuild production following several years of manufacturing disruptions and regulatory scrutiny. None of the companies disclosed financial terms for the agreements.
