Oklo (OKLO) up 5.8% and X-Energy (XE) up 7.1% post-market Tuesday following a Bloomberg report that the advanced nuclear reactor suppliers are joining tech giants in a program led by the Trump administration intended to speed the development of new power plants for AI data centers.

Details of the $200M effort, part of a previously announced initiative also including Microsoft and Nvidia, could be announced as soon as Wednesday at an AI energy summit convened by the U.S. Department of Energy, according to the report.

The program seeks broadly to address rising concerns that the growth of data centers needed to feed the artificial intelligence boom has caused electricity prices to spike nationwide.

Among the goals of the latest initiative are steep reductions in time needed to design, license, and build new plants, as well as cuts in the number of staff needed to run them, the report says.

The DoE says ~300 GW of new nuclear power will be needed by 2050, but an advanced nuclear reactor has yet to operate on a commercial scale.

Quantum computers just took a step toward solving nuclear fusion's fuel problem

Illustration of a tokamak nuclear fusion reactor chamber. (Ruslanas Baranauskas/Science Photo Library/Getty Images) A major barrier to harnessing energy via nuclear fusion is the fuel source. Most proposed fusion reactors (the donut-shaped tokamak reactors) are powered by the fusion of tritium and deuterium. Both are isotopes of hydrogen, but tritium is radioactive, and deuterium is stable. The fusion reaction between these two isotopes produces
