On today’s Beyond The Gates recap:

Shanice Can't Deal With Ted's Declaration of Love

Shanice and Ted are at The Bowman. She doesn’t know what to say to his declaration of falling in love with her. Ted knows he took too long figuring himself out. He knows what he wants and what he wants is Shanice.

Shanice wonders if Ted is simply telling her what she wants to hear but he assures her that he is genuine in his feelings. The conversation doesn’t go quite as Ted expected and Shanice eventually makes her exit.

Bill and Dani Get Heated on Beyond The Gates!

Dani is going off on Bill about the mistake they made on the elevator. He tries to get sexy with her but she’s not having any of it. Bill won’t let it go as he thinks he knows Dani better than she knows herself, especially sexually. He pulls her to him and notes how her heart is pounding. She pushes her ex-husband away and says she has a husband to whom she is happily married. Bill declares Dani still wants him, but she says he exploited a weak moment. Bill says he isn’t torturing her and says their affair doesn’t have to stop.

Bill thinks he should get a medal for keeping their little secret and notes just how much it proves how he can keep future ones. Dani says there is one secret and shall never be another. Bill looks at her and simply says, “never say never.”

Ashley is at the homestead when Grayson arrives at her door bearing the gift of food. He says he will continue to do so until she understands how devoted he is to her. They take a seat and get into his job at Uptown. He gets into the second chance he’s been given from Jacob, at the hospital and from her. Ashley says Grayson is a good man who made a bad decision and believes owning his behavior shows just who he is. With that, they kiss and then he exits.

Nicole Advises Kat About Tomas

Kat arrives at her mother’s office and says she is regenerating like a boss and ready for her condo move. Nicole is thrilled about her baby’s first home but warns her to watch the heavy lifting. That being said, she knows Tomas won’t let her near a box. Kat says he probably won’t be there as he is headed back to Puerto Rico. Nicole thinks the space could really help them figure out their relationship.

Kat knows her mother doesn’t want her to be with Tomas, but Nicole says it doesn’t matter what she thinks was long as her daughter is happy. Nicole notes her marriage to Ted and worries they established unrealistic expectations of love at first sight. She says sometimes you can love, leave and benefit from the experience. Kat gets it but also thinks Naomi is going through the same thing. Nicole inquires and Kat tells her about the positive BRCA test, which floors her mother.

Nicole is all kinds of frustrated with her niece and Kat tells her the story about why she held the secret and how she has chosen to reveal it now. Nicole wishes they could have been there for Naomi, but Kat says she needs her family even more than ever as she is considering a double mastectomy.

Grayson arrives for his shift at Uptown and encounters sad sack Tomas who is drinking and carrying the engagement ring he bought for Kat. He tells Grayson about the failed proposal and how they are still together. Grayson clearly doesn’t get it but wonders why he is still keeping it close. Tomas says he is headed back to Puerto Rico and trying to figure out whether he should return it to his grandmother. Grayson thinks he should hold onto the ring as Kat may change her mind or he may find someone else worthy of the historic piece of jewelry.

Ted and Shanice Seek Out Romantic Advice on Beyond The Gates

Ted arrives at Orphey Gene’s to meet up with Kat. He asks about her appointment, and she says all is good with her recovery. She could use some fatherly advice, and Ted assumes it’s about Tomas. Kat mentions her condo but wonders what Tomas had to say about it. Ted wants to hear her side of the story before revealing anything. Kat goes off about Tomas wanting to pay her rent when her daddy backs her man. He wants her to think about what it was like to take it on the chin in front of the entire Dupree family. She gets it but wonders what she’s supposed to do about her relationship. Ted says gets it as he is in a similar stalemate situation in his relationship with Shanice. He says he told her how much she means to him and Shanice said she wasn’t quite there yet.

Ted tells Kat all about revealing to Shanice how he’s falling in love with her… followed by her saying she didn’t know how to respond and made a quick exit. Kat thinks maybe she just freaked out and needs to process. Ted says it hurt, and Kat thinks the feeling is good as it means her father cares.

Shanice arrives at Garland Memorial and links up with Ashley at the nurses’ station, who wonders what she is doing back at the workstead. Shanice says her workstation is where she returns when she feels out of control. Ashley takes Shanice to sit down, and she tells her all about what happened with Ted and how freaked out she was when he expressed, he was falling in love with her. Ashley thinks it’s great news, but Shanice says she was like a deer in headlights.

Shanice grabs some food and feels a bit better. Ashley asks about her feelings, and she says it’s not Ted but love she doesn’t think she can depend on. Ashley gets taking a leap of faith is difficult but worth it. She mentions Grayson but says she knows things could go south but wants to take the chance to see if it’s all worth it. That being said, Shanice doesn’t think her story will end quite the same.

Dani tells Bill she will never be a side piece like Hayley. Bill tells her to calm down as he was only trying to get a rise out of her. Just then, Nicole comes a-knocking. Dani asks Bill to get gone and he quickly exits. Dani tells her sister not to even ask about what’s going on but Nicole says she already knows as the secret is out.

Dani is stunned when Nicole thinks the secret of the moment is about Naomi carrying the BRCA gene. They sit down and get into the generational horror show of it all. Nicole knows Dani can handle what her daughter is going through and will be a rock for her, especially if she goes through with the surgery. Dani has no clue what her sister is talking about.

Tomas and Kat meet up at Uptown, and he says his trip to Puerto Rico might be cut a few days short because he knows he is needed in the office (or is worried Naomi may replace him). He says his family is disappointed they won’t meet her, and Kat says she feels the same. She returns to asking about the office as she thought Bill signed off on his vacay. Tomas says Bill is back and cool but it’s Naomi with whom he is doing battle. He says, since the stroke and Madison’s case, Bill and Naomi have gotten closer. Kat then decides to bring Tomas into the BRCA gene of it all but before she can Bill arrives on the scene.

Kat shifts directions and says she was only saying how lucky Bill is to have him at the firm. Bill is thrilled to hear his niece sing his praises and Kat says they are of a different generation. They will not ever be people who wake up one day and realize they’ve married someone they don’t respect (And I Ooop!).

Later…

Bill approaches the Uptown bar and is surprised to find Grayson.

Tomas asks Kat to keep an eye on Naomi whilst he is gone. She says she will but also notes Naomi is her cousin. She will keep an ear out but only to prove he has nothing to worry about. Tomas notes the time and says he needs to head to the airport.

Shanice gets the text and tells Shanice not to leave him on read but she doesn’t know what to say back. Ashley thinks she knows exactly how she feels, but for once, doesn’t know how to weigh the happiness vs the heartbreak. Shanice thanks her friend and gets gone to go get her man.

Dani is horrified when Nicole says Naomi is considering a double mastectomy. She can’t imagine someone so young making such a drastic decision. Nicole notes she provides her patients with information so they can make their own choices. Dani wants to do the same for her daughter, so she doesn’t make such a colossal mistake (Oh Dani…).

Later…

Ashley calls Grayson to come over for sexy time. He is down but says he has to close so he will be a wee late.

Dani tells Nicole her first born isn’t this impulsive and wants to stop her before she makes a decision she can’t take back. Nicole tries to calm Dani saying she is spinning and grappling with the same exact news. She thinks her sissy is dismissing Naomi’s plans as if she can’t make her own decisions.

Shanice returns to Ted’s hotel room as she didn’t like where they left off. She says she is falling in love with him, too and the couple embrace. Ted is thrilled and says they are oh so good together.
