Bethesda Game Studios is doing damage control following the recent layoff announcements, which have led to conjecture regarding its most popular IPs. For those not keeping track, Microsoft announced it would be laying off around 5,000 of its staff, with roughly 3,000 being cut from its Xbox gaming division, which includes 136 out of 185 staff from id Software. The studio most famously known for DOOM is owned by parent company ZeniMax Media, along with Bethesda, which Microsoft purchased for $7.5 billion in 2021. These layoffs, which span across multiple studios, left many wondering how Bethesda intends to move forward with projects regarding its remaining IPs such as Fallout, The Elder Scrolls, DOOM, and Starfield.

BGS says that it is working on remasters of Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas. It is also working on a Fallout ’76 expansion story set to be a Fallout 3 prequel. Obisidian Entertainment is said to be collaborating with BGS on a new untitled Fallout project as well.

The Elder Scrolls VI is on fans’ minds since the last game was released nearly fifteen years ago. According to the announcement, it and Fallout 5 are being made using Creation Engine 3. The Elder Scrolls VI is the studio’s primary focus right now and is in full production, with Fallout 5 in the early stages of development.

There’s no news of a Starfield sequel, but BGS has noted how players are using its Creations customization system to personalize their gaming experience but has said that it is still planning to expand the Settled systems with new stories and improvements. This likely means there is yet more DLC on the way for Starfield.

Is DOOM doomed? Well, probably not, but it was left out of this announcement while it was mentioned how Obsidian has been redirected to working on Fallout.
