A 12-year-old beagle named Rosie was reunited with her late owner’s son, 10 years after they had last seen each other.

Chris Becker told WPLG Local 10 that following the death of his father over a decade ago, he lost contact with his late father’s girlfriend, who took over Rosie’s care.

Unsure what happened to the woman and the dog, Becker thought he would never see the beagle again. However, he recently received a call from the iHeart Animal Rescue saying that Rosie, whom Becker last saw in Maryland, was alive and had somehow made it to Hollywood, Fla. According to the Florida-based rescue, someone had surrendered Rosie to the nonprofit. iHeart Animal Rescue checked whether Rosie had an owner and found information that led them to the canine’s original Maryland rescue and to Becker’s contact information.

“I didn’t recognize her because her face is so gray and white, but I saw those eyes, and I recognized those eyes somehow, and sure enough, when we got a couple more pictures,” Becker told the outlet, noting that he hopped on a flight to Florida as quickly as he could to reunite with Rosie and bring her home.

“I was really excited to see her,” he continued. “Especially knowing where she just came from, and someone obviously took care of her, she’s happy.”

According to the rescue’s president, Cindy Mucciaccio, the person who surrendered Rosie claimed that they could no longer take care of the senior dog after Rosie was given to them by a friend.

Following 10 years of separation, Becker and Rosie finally reunited at Cool Cuts in Pompano Beach.

Before he brought her back home to Maryland, however, Becker decided to make the occasion even more special by adopting a friend for Rosie: a dog named Storm, who quickly bonded with the senior beagle after he was surrendered to the rescue in an emaciated state.
