Texas Attorney General and Republican Senate nominee Ken Paxton fled a press conference on Tuesday after reporters asked about two recent scandals.
The reporters’ questions referenced a July 16 New York Times report that Paxton and his trusts own at least 15 properties worth roughly $9 million—including multiple luxury condominiums in Utah—which is surprising considering his $153,000 salary as attorney general, and also a July 7 ProPublica report which found that Paxton had voted in six elections using an address where he hadn’t resided for at least two years.

Paxton refused to answer either question, telling the first reporter that he would only answer questions about law enforcement and then looking uneasy after a reporter asked the second question. Paxton’s aide ended the conference after the second reporter spoke.
Paxton, who is running against Texas state Rep. James Talarico (D) for one of the state’s two U.S. Senate seats, has been at the forefront of his state’s relentless attacks on transgender civil rights.
The lectern at Paxton’s press conference had a picture of Talarico along with the words, “Talarico: Handcuffed to his record.”
