The FIFA World Cup drove the increase, including about 400,000 sign-ups on the tournament’s opening day.— This story first appears at TheDesk.net, a premium source for original news and analysis on the business of media and technology. Nearly three million streamers purchased a new subscription to Fox One during the FIFA World Cup tournament in June, according to new data released by intelligence firm Antenna.

The total more than doubled Fox One’s previous monthly record of 1.1 million sign-ups in January, when the service benefited from the NFL playoffs. About 400,000 customers joined on June 11, the opening day of the World Cup, Antenna said.

Antenna’s methodology relies heavily on opt-in data like credit card transactions, phone charges and other financial statements, which means the actual number of people who signed up for Fox One — either through a free trial, promotional experience or by paying for it on a platform that isn’t measured by Antenna — is likely higher.

Fox One carried all 104 tournament matches through feeds from the Fox broadcast network and cable channel FS1. Tubi also simulcast two early games, giving Fox additional opportunities to promote the paid service.

Antenna said the tournament primarily attracted first-time customers rather than former subscribers returning for the event. New subscribers accounted for 93 percent of June gross additions, while 7 percent had previously subscribed and canceled within the preceding 12 months.

“The 2026 World Cup functioned as a first-time acquisition event, not a reactivation event for Fox One,” Antenna said.

Direct subscriptions through Fox One represented 40 percent of June sign-ups, making that the service’s largest distribution channel. Amazon Channels accounted for 19 percent, down from 58 percent of acquisitions between launch and May.

YouTube Primetime Channels generated 15 percent of June sign-ups after adding Fox One on June 1. Most of those subscriptions arrived after World Cup play began later in the month.
