Pour one out for the 2025/2026 ski season, it's officially come to an end.
Timberline Lodge, located high on Oregon's Mt. Hood, welcomed skiers and snowboarders for the last time this season on Sunday, July 19, 2026, marking 212 days since the ski resort opened on December 20, 2026.
Logging a season longer than 200 days is a pipe dream for many ski resorts in North America, but the number is actually quite low for Timberline Lodge.
Warm temperatures delayed the resort's opening by more than a month, and below-average snowfall this winter is causing it to close at least two weeks earlier than its unofficial closing goal of August.
Despite the challenging season, Timberline Lodge still took the crown for "Last Open" in North America and welcomed hundreds of campers, pro racers, and freestyle Olympians to its slopes as it does each summer.
With Timberline Lodge closed for the season, the North American ski scene has officially hit its lowest point of the year. There's just one resort open, the indoor ski resort Big Snow American Dream in New Jersey, and the earliest an outdoor resort will re-open for skiing and snowboarding is more than two months away.
But fear not, my North American ski friends, the biggest storm in years is currently pounding South America with snow, and August 2026 is shaping up to be a month to remember.
