Alexander Bublik is capable of tennis greatness, but sometimes he appears to play with his food a bit much. He wants to win, sure, but he also wants to entertain. When he is serious and focused, his opponent has a difficult time defeating him.
This was the task facing Facundo Diaz Acosta in the second round of the 2026 Generali Open. The challenge became greater because in the opening set, Bublik only teased a bit of playfulness with his shot-making. Instead, he played relatively clean tennis with eight winners and eight unforced errors.
Diaz Acosta didn't have the same kind of efficiency with three winners but seven unforced errors. He could also do little on the Kazakhstani's second serve, as Bublik won 82 percent of those points. Ultimately, it was Bublik who got the only break and took the set 6-3.

The Argentinian is a solid returner, though. If he finally had the chance to make inroads on Bublik's serve, he might be able to steal a game in set two and make the match competitive. He was at least serving better to begin the set.
After each player held with relative ease through the first six games of the second set, suddenly each was pushed while trying to hold in their next games. Bublik almost got the break first, and then Diaz Acosta almost gave himself a chance to serve out the set with a break.
Unfortunately for the Argentinian, who didn't play poorly overall, but was caught off guard by Bublik's style at times (the Kazakhstani hit many drop shots that Diaz Acosta couldn't have expected), Bublik got the break at the worst time for his opponent and won the set 7-5.
For Alexander Bublik, the field at the Generali Open has opened fairly widely for the top-seeded Alexander Bublik. Second seed Valentin Vacherot lost in straight sets to Quentin Halys in the second round. Third seed Arthur Rinderknech lost in the same round in three sets to Sebastian Baez. Bublik will next face either Alex Molcan or Daniel Altmaier in the third round.
