Alan Carr's first task after he moves into his castle? Have a real banquet of course!

Alan Carr has said he plans to hold a banquet at his Scottish castle as he prepares to move into the £3.3 million property.

The Celebrity Traitors winner snapped up 17-bedroom Ayton Castle in Berwickshire earlier this year.

His castle makeover is being documented by streaming channel Disney+, which plans to follow him as he turns it into a luxury venue. 

However, the star has suggested he will live in the castle as well and has turned his attention to how he will celebrate.

The banquet suggestion came up as Carr chatted to fellow comedian Sam Campbell, who had been winding him up about his wealth.

While recording a podcast, Campbell poked fun at the extravagant purchase, suggesting Carr, who also has a wine tasting podcast, would have enough money to construct a moat out of fizz.

Campbell said: ‘You’ve just purchased a castle with a moat made of Lambrini.’ Carr, 50, replied: ‘You liar. It’s not got a moat.’

While Carr laughed the joke off at first, he later returned to the subject.

He said: ‘You want to come to my castle or not? See if I swim across the Lambrini [moat].’

Campbell went on to ask Carr: ‘Are you going to do an opening – a banquet or a fair?’

Carr replied ‘Yeah,’ before going on to invite Campbell to visit his new country pile, saying he could stay during the Edinburgh Festival.

He went on to say he will ask guests to dress up in period costumes. He added: ‘It’s not got dungeons. It’s got bedrooms. It’s got a lovely ballroom. It’s got a library.’

He added: ‘It’s got a formal garden. It’s got follies. It’s got everything.’

Set in more than 160 acres, the 19th century pile is regarded as one of the country’s finest baronial-style stately homes.

Carr has said he couldn’t resist splashing out on it and added: ‘Some men when they have a midlife crisis buy a Lamborghini or grow a ponytail, but me – I want my very own castle.’
