AJ Styles never expected to compete in a TNA farewell match.
Through a cross-promotional partnership, WWE star AJ Styles returned to his former home of TNA for a special appearance at the 2025 Slammiversary event. Afterward, speculation on Styles wrestling in TNA again then naturally arose.
According to Styles himself, that possibility never truly existed, however.
"I don't think there was ever a possibility of me having a match in TNA,” Styles told Insight With Chris Van Vliet, “and I think I know why. Because once I did that appearance with Leon where Chelsea Green came up to me and said, ‘Oh, I would love to go back there and have a match.'
"I go, ‘Oh, that's why I want to. I'll never have a match over there, because once you open that door, it's open now, and people are going to want to do it. ‘So I knew after talking to Chelsea, and she wasn't saying anything bad. She's just saying the idea of being able to wrestle there would be great again. I knew that it never happened."
Despite never stepping back into a TNA ring for a match, Styles did help usher in a new era for the company as he hyped up the crowd on the AMC debut of Thursday Night Impact in January 2026.. Weeks later, Styles hung up his pro wrestling boots for good at the 2026 WWE Royal Rumble premium live event.
