Avengers: Doomsday trailer sees Chris Evans return and reveals first full look at Robert Downey Jr’s Doctor Doom - Superheroes from across the Marvel universe face a new supervillain in the upcoming film

Marvel has finally released the first full trailer for Avengers: Doomsday, which sees Chris Hemsworth’s Thor uniting heroes from across multiple universes to face a new enemy: Robert Downey Jr’s Doctor Doom.

The film, the first in a two-part Avengers finale, will feature almost every major character from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, including Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers, X-Men, the Fantastic Four, Chris Hemsworth’s Thor and Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh).

The trailer sees Thor announce: “Something’s coming. Something we may not be able to deter. Before this day is done, we shall be faced with an unthinkable decision.

“I’ve fought with many warriors in my time. They were far stronger than all of us put together. And they died.”

“They died facing enemies and threats that scared me far less than this one,” he cautions. “Everything that they sacrificed will be for nothing if we do not stand together.”

“If you return, you will return as brothers and sisters,” Thor continues. “But mark my words, we’re going to need a miracle.”

He is then left stunned by the arrival of Steve Rogers (Evans), who decided to travel back into the past and be with Peggy Carter in Avengers: Endgame. He then returned as an elderly man to pass his Captain America shield on to Sam Wilson.

Marvel has also released a new synopsis for the film, which reads: "Universes collide and the Multiverse Saga begins its final chapter in Marvel Studios' Avengers: Doomsday.

“Beloved heroes from three distinct universes will be set on a deadly collision course and ultimately face an existential threat unlike anything they've ever encountered.

"This epic film will lay the foundation for the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.”

Other characters in the trailer include Shang-Chi (Simu Liu), the Black Panthers, Gambit (Channing Tatum) and Magneto (Ian McKellen) – as well as Downey Jr as supervillain Doctor Doom.

The 61-year-old’s new on-screen alter ego is an entirely separate character from Iron Man, aka Tony Stark, who sacrificed himself by using the Infinity Stones to defeat Thanos in Endgame.

Released in 2019, Endgame smashed box office records when it became the first film to reach $1bn in box office takings in its opening weekend.

In the US, Endgame brought in a record $350m on its debut weekend, as well as landing the biggest opening of all-time in the UK and Ireland, with takings of £47.3m.

Avengers: Doomsday is expected to perform similarly well, if not better, when it is released in cinemas on 18 December.
