Abra Group agrees to buy up to 45 Embraer jets at Farnborough Airshow

Abra Group, the parent company of Avianca, Gol and Wamos Air, has agreed to acquire 20 Embraer (EMBJ) E195-E2 aircraft, with options and purchase rights that could increase the order to as many as 45 jets.

The announcement came at the Farnborough International Airshow, where aircraft manufacturers, airlines and leasing companies traditionally unveil major orders that investors watch closely for signs of demand and production trends across the aerospace sector.

The agreement includes 10 purchase options and 15 purchase rights, bringing the potential total to 45 aircraft if additional conditions are met.

The first aircraft is expected to be delivered in the fourth quarter of 2027. Embraer said the order will be added to its third quarter backlog once all final conditions have been satisfied.

Focus on regional markets

Abra said it plans to use the E195-E2 to expand connectivity across Latin America while adding flexibility to serve domestic and regional markets with aircraft better matched to demand.

Chief Executive Adrian Neuhauser said the aircraft would support the group's strategy of deploying capacity where demand warrants while continuing to invest in newer generation aircraft.

The E195-E2 is the largest member of Embraer's E-Jet E2 family. It is powered by Pratt & Whitney geared turbofan engines and is designed to reduce fuel consumption and emissions compared with earlier generation models.

Embraer Commercial Aviation Chief Executive Arjan Meijer said the agreement strengthens the company's relationship with Abra as airlines seek more efficient aircraft for regional and short-haul operations.

Deliveries are scheduled to begin in the fourth quarter of 2027 and continue in phases thereafter.
