Aaron Rodgers has publicly shared a rare family reunion, signaling a significant development in a relationship that had remained fractured for years. The quarterback recently posted photos on Instagram showing himself with his parents, Ed and Darla Rodgers, his older brother Luke, and other relatives. The images mark one of the clearest public signs that the long-running estrangement within the Rodgers family has eased after nearly a decade out of the public eye.
As reported by People, Rodgers’ post included photos of him embracing both of his parents, spending time with Luke, and interacting with his niece. He captioned the post”Another bonding week. #fam.” The post quickly drew attention because Rodgers had rarely shared family photos during the years when the estrangement hogged the headlines in 2016, Although younger brother Jordan Rodgers did not appear in the pictures, he reportedly liked the post.
No one knew about this family rift until 2016 when Jordan Rodgers appeared on The Bachelorette. There, he revealed that Aaron had little contact with his relatives. Over the years, the situation became the subject of public speculation, with various family members occasionally addressing it while Aaron largely avoided discussing the matter. The Pittsburgh Steelers star would eventually comment on it in his 2024 Netflix documentary.
Jordan Rodgers was absent from family reunion photos
In Rodgers’ latest family photos, Jordan Rodgers was notably absent. During his hometown episode on the show, he introduced his then-girlfriend, now wife JoJo Fletcher, to his family over dinner, where Aaron’s absence was highlighted by two empty seats at the table – one reserved for the quarterback and another for his then-girlfriend, actress Olivia Munn. The moment became one of the earliest public indications of the years-long rift within the Rodgers family.
Through the years, Aaron has remained mum on the issue. In an interview with ABC’s WISN 12 News, he said, “As far as those kinds of things go, I’ve always found that it’s a little inappropriate to talk publicly about some family matters, so I’m just — I’m not going to speak on those things.” According to his brother, Luke, the family does not like to talk about this feud, making Jordan’s public admission a departure from their usual silence on the issue.
Then, in 2024, Rodgers released the three-part Netflix documentary Aaron Rodgers: Enigma, which explored several personal topics, including his long-standing estrangement from his family. He also addressed Jordan’s decision to publicly discuss this issue.
“I was quiet about it, because I thought the best way to do it was [to] not talk about it publicly,” Rodgers said. “And what do they do? They go on a bulls— show and leave two empty chairs? They all agreed this was a good thing to do?” While the exact timeline of the family’s renewed relationship has not been disclosed, the Instagram post suggests that Rodgers has reconnected with at least some of his immediate family members.
The photos also arrive during an important period in Rodgers’ football career. He is set to return for his final season, signing a one-year contract with the Steelers. In April, the Steelers made it clear that they were expecting a decision from the four-time MVP before the 2026 draft. He ultimately announced his decision in May.
