A man died in Puget Sound about 100 yards from the shore near Dash Point Park on Tuesday.
In a news release from deputy Carly Cappetto, a spokesperson for the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office, Dash Point residents reported a man “screaming for help” at 7:07 a.m. Witnesses saw a 60-year-old man on a sinking kayak. One person made it out to the man using a paddleboard, but the man was no longer responsive, the kayak already submerged in the water. According to the release, it is unknown why the kayak sank. There appeared to be no life jackets on board.
East Pierce Fire, Tacoma Fire and Brown’s Point/Dash Point Fire were called to the scene . Life-saving measures, including CPR, were performed on the man for over 40 minutes before he was declared deceased.
