Apple’s iPhone 18 Pro has moved into mass production, with Foxconn actively recruiting additional factory workers in China to support a full manufacturing push ahead of a September launch.
Supply chain reports from China Securities News indicate that Foxconn has entered its peak hiring window, raising hourly wages, base salaries, and rehire bonuses to bring in enough staff to meet Apple’s production targets.
The ramp-up signals that Apple is confident in the design and components required for the Pro lineup, which typically means a September release date is locked in.
A Smaller Cutout, More Screen
For anyone who has found the Dynamic Island distracting during a movie or game, the iPhone 18 Pro addresses that directly.
The front camera and Face ID cutout is expected to shrink from 20.76mm to 13.49mm, reducing the notch’s footprint by roughly 35 percent.
That pushes the screen-to-body ratio to approximately 94.7 percent, meaning more of the display is usable when watching video in landscape orientation or playing a full-screen game.
That change alone will be visible to anyone using the phone daily, without needing to look up a spec sheet.
Camera Gets a Mechanical Upgrade
The main camera is expected to gain variable aperture technology, which physically adjusts how much light enters the lens depending on shooting conditions.
Instead of leaning entirely on computational photography to clean up harsh highlights or low-light noise, a physical diaphragm would let the lens actually stop down in daylight and open up in the dark.
The A20 Pro chip will power both models, continuing Apple’s annual silicon cycle with expected improvements to processing speed and battery efficiency.
This Year’s Launch Works Differently
Apple is changing how it releases the iPhone 18 family. Rather than announcing the full lineup together in September as it has done in recent years, the company plans to launch the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max first.
Then hold back the standard iPhone 18, a new iPhone 18e, and a second-generation iPhone Air until 2027.
If you’re holding out for the entry-level model, prepare to wait a few extra months. Pro upgraders, on the other hand, are still on track for the usual fall window.
