Year-in, year-out, the New York Yankees are in the running for a World Series title, and 2026 is no different. Even with Aaron Judge still out amid a lengthy battle with a rib injury, the Yankees keep on winning as they keep in step with the Tampa Bay Rays for the AL East lead. In fact, their confidence is soaring after they took the first game of a three-game set against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Monday, 8-5.

The Yankees wasted no time stamping their class on the game; by the time the bottom of the first inning concluded, New York was already up 4-0, thanks to a three-run home run from Jazz Chisholm Jr. that got the crowd at Yankee Stadium up on its feet.

Chisholm seems to be hitting his stride, which is exactly when the Yankees need him to considering how they’ve missed his pop for most of the season. It looked like he was going to be involved in trade talks at one point due to his underperformance, but he is showing New York why he’s here to stay — especially when he’s focused on leading his team to great heights, outside noise be damned.

“I don’t see the trade deadline stuff right now. I don’t see the free agency stuff. I just want to go win. I want the city to flip upside down again. That’s what I wanna do. Knicks in 5, right?” Chisholm told reporters, via SNY on X (formerly Twitter).

Chisholm is going to be hitting free agency at the end of this season, and perhaps he’s remembering that he’ll be up for a new contract soon with the way he’s been hitting these past few days.

Even with Chisholm encountering a few struggles at the plate, he’s been solid on defense and on the basepaths for the Yankees. But now that he’s turning it on at the plate, the Yankees now have a better chance to follow up on the New York Knicks’ success and turn the city into a 24-7 rave.

Inside Yankees’ Jasson Dominguez trade deadline dilemma — as outfielder speaks out

Few prospects in baseball history have faced the kind of expectations that welcomed Jasson Domínguez to professional baseball, immediately compared with the likes of Mickey Mantle upon signing with the Yankees as a teenager out of the Dominican Republic in 2019. Given the amount on his shoulders and given the journey, on the field and off, required to climb the minor league ladder, he probably did not need more to worry about each July (or in...
