Having a wardrobe malfunction while trying on clothes can be both daunting and somewhat humorous. For many, it eventually can be a story to tell, but getting out of the tricky pair of jeans, stuck-zipper dress, or, in one woman’s case, an Aritzia satin top, is the first priority.
One woman is currently going viral for explaining how she “Type B’d” herself into purchasing said top at Aritzia. Why did she purchase it? Because she got stuck in it.
Elle Hall (@ellehunterhall) explained that she tried on a XXS top at Aritzia and simply could not get it off. She added in her post with more than 646,000 views that she ended up wearing it to a Pilates class afterward.
But is it best practice to simply purchase and wear a product out because of a wardrobe mishap?
Is This a Common Issue With Aritzia Clothing?
While Hall may have thought she had a singular experience in Aritzia that day, it turns out she’s not the only person who’s run into a wardrobe malfunction at the clothing store. A wide variety of commenters said they ended up in the exact same situation as Hall while shopping there.
“It’s okay they had to cut me out of a shirt there hahahah,” one commenter said. The comment was reminiscent of a similar viral incident posted by a Florida TikToker, Lily, who said she had to be cut out of an Aritzia piece by employees. A commenter on that video, who claimed to work for the clothing store, said they had to cut two different women from dresses.
Some viewers even shared that they had the exact same issue with the top Hall purchased.
One viewer said, “The same thing happened to me with this top too had to damn near dislocate my shoulder to get it off.”
A second commenter added, “I got stuck in the same top and the sales associate who had been helping me had to help me get it off… she saw EVERYTHING and i had just met her.”
How Does Aritzia Normally Handle Wardrobe Issues?
With the multitude of customers who have said they have gotten stuck in clothing at Aritzia, one would think the company would have a policy or specific directive to handle malfunctions. But it’s unclear whether Aritzia has a specific way to ease customers out of its garments.
In worst-case scenarios such as Lily’s, employees have cut individuals out of garments. It’s unclear if the store then charges its customers for the clothing afterward. Lily said she did not have to pay for the piece she was removed from.
It’s worth noting that some customers do not like approaching Aritzia employees for wardrobe-related issues. Online discussions that Aritzia employees are mean or non-inclusive can make it difficult to trust someone with a private affair. A wardrobe malfunction is no exception.
Did Aritzia respond?
Hall reached a wide audience with her video, which apparently included Aritzia’s TikTok account. A representative left a comment on Hall’s post, which said, “Hi Elle, thank you for bringing this to our attention. We’d love to make things right. Please send us a DM on Instagram.”
Hall responded and said she direct messaged the brand. It’s unclear if Aritzia has communicated with Hall since.
