What to know about JHX Hoops vs. Purple Reign
Michael Beasley made an immediate impact in his TBT debut, scoring a game-high 20 points to lead Purple Reign to an 80-61 win over JHX Hoops (Kansas alumni) Tuesday night at Bramlage Coliseum.
The rivalry matchup was never particularly close after Purple Reign jumped out to a 10-1 lead and controlled the game for most of the night. JHX Hoops made a push in the third quarter behind Billy Preston and Jacob Hanna, trimming the deficit to single digits in the fourth, but Purple Reign responded and pulled away during the Elam Ending.
Beasley stuffed the stat sheet with 20 points, six assists, three blocks and two steals. Xavier Sneed and Austin Trice each added 16 points, while Shaun Williams provided 15 points off the bench. Preston led JHX Hoops with 15 points, while Zeke Mayo chipped in 12.
Purple Reign’s defense was the difference-maker, forcing 19 turnovers and turning them into a 26-9 advantage in points off turnovers. Kansas State’s alumni squad also dominated inside, outscoring JHX Hoops 40-22 in the paint and shooting nearly 52% from the field.
With the victory, Purple Reign moves one win away from advancing and can clinch the series in Game 2 tonight in Topeka.
