The Five Star Weekend Is Dominating the Charts
The adaptation premiered on July 9, and it took a few days before it finally hit No. 1. But now it's officially dominating the charts, holding its place ahead of Love Island USA, Married at First Sight, and The Lord of the Skies.
Per first-party data from Peacock, The Five Star Weekend is a certified hit. Nielsen data isn't available yet, as it will be released in about a month, but Peacock's early data proves the show is among the Top 5 original streaming series for the week of July 6 to 12.
The series also attracted attention on social media, with over 13 million video views. According to Sprout's social content rankings, The Five-Star Weekend is the No. 1 most social streaming premiere for the week of July 6. The Five Star Weekend isn't Olyphant's only current hit, as Apple TV just released the crime series Lucky.
What Happens in The Five Star Weekend?
The new limited series is based on Elin Hilderbrand's 2023 novel of the same name. The author was also behind Netflix's ultra-successful limited series The Perfect Couple, which starred Nicole Kidman, Liev Schreiber, Eve Hewson, Billy Howle, Meghann Fahy, Dakota Fanning, Sam Nivola, Ishaan Khatter, and Jack Reynor. The miniseries was so successful that it has scored a Season 2 renewal.
The Five Star Weekend follows Jennifer Garner as Hollis Shaw, a famed cook and best-selling author known for her delicious recipes, impeccable taste, and warm demeanor, who suffers a devastating loss.
Unable to move forward, the death starts to expose the cracks in Hollis’s picture-perfect life—her strained marriage, her complicated relationship with her daughter, and her growing pursuit of validation from her fans. In an effort to overcome grief and find herself again, Hollis gets the idea to host a weekend away at her house on Nantucket with three friends from different stages in her life—childhood, college, motherhood—and one surprise guest.
Set against a luxurious and coastal backdrop, the five “stars” will develop in ways they could never imagine as boundaries are pushed and secrets are exposed.
The main cast also includes Olyphant as Jack, Hollis's first boyfriend when she was a teenager, Gemma Chan as Gigi Ling, D'Arcy Carden as Brooke Kirtley, Regina Hall as Dru-Ann Jones, Chloë Sevigny as Tatum McKenzie, and Harlow Jane as Caroline Shaw.
The Five Star Weekend instantly won over critics, and the show boasts a Certified Fresh 90% approval score out of 30 reviews. Audiences also gave it a positive score, a slightly lower 70% rating.
