Senate Republicans have recommended Sen. Darline Graham, R-S.C., for most of the committee assignments held by her late brother, Sen. Lindsey Graham.
During a closed-door Senate Republican lunch Tuesday, GOP senators announced plans to place Darline Graham on the Judiciary, Appropriations, Environment and Public Works, and Budget committees, filling vacancies created after her brother's death earlier this month, according to Politico.
The committee assignments still require approval by the full Senate, a step that is typically completed by unanimous consent. The Senate is expected to adopt a resolution later Tuesday formalizing the new committee lineup.
Republicans also are moving to fill the leadership positions Lindsey Graham held before his death, including his role on the Senate Budget Committee and as chair of the Senate Appropriations subcommittee overseeing State Department funding.
Sen. Ron Johnson, R-Wis., is expected to become chair of the Budget Committee, while Senate Appropriations Chair Susan Collins, R-Maine, is expected to assume leadership of the State Department funding subcommittee on an interim basis.
