For years, Lola Vice battled many women in an effort to get a title in NXT. She always was real close, but couldn’t get the victory. However, that all changed at Stand & Deliver in April. She captured the NXT Women’s Championship from Jacy Jayne in a triple threat match that also featured Kendal Grey; now she looks to win it back in an NXT Underground match.
Her first retention was on night one of NXT Revenge against Jayne, sending her and Fatal Influence to Friday Night SmackDown. She then beat Izzi Dame and La Hiedra before Grey ended her reign at the Great American Bash.
Two weeks later, she won a number one contender’s match against Kali Armstrong and Kelani Jordan to get a chance to reclaim her title. The two women met on the July 21 episode of NXT, leading to her wanting to compete in an NXT Underground match. Grey accepted, with the match being scheduled for the August 4 NXT. Will she get her title back or will Grey keep her reign going?
Lola Vice is Undefeated in NXT Underground Matches
NXT has held seven NXT Underground matches, with four out of the seven being women’s matches. All four of them include Vice, and she has won all of them. She beat Natalya on night two of Spring Breakin’ two years ago, followed that up with a win against Shayna Baszler at NXT Battleground two months later, and defeated Jaida Parker at NXT Deadline to close out the year. The concept was brought back earlier this year, when she beat Jordan at NXT Vengeance Day.
She was signed directly from MMA, with the concept borrowing many elements from the fighting style. It’s clear she wants her title back, so she’s challenging Grey to a match type that she hasn’t lost yet. She has the direct advantage, making her a clear favorite to reclaim her title in two weeks. It took her four years in NXT to become NXT Women’s Champion. An NXT Underground match would be the easiest way to give Vice a second reign.
Grey Won’t Give Up Her Title So Easily
In a short amount of time, Grey has become a major star in the NXT women’s division. She was the Evolve Women’s Champion for 150 days before vacating it to move up permanently in March. The next month, she beat Jayne and Vice to become the NXT Women’s Champion.
She beat Nattie in a great retention on the June 30 NXT, showing everyone how athletic and talented she is. In addition, she’s had a successful run with NXT Women’s Speed Champion Wren Sinclair in a tag team.
Many see her as the future of the women’s division, and it’s been easy to see why. Vice challenged her to an NXT Underground match because she knows how strong she is. To retain, she’ll have to use every ounce of it to beat her opponent, who has never lost in the match type. Grey will have to put on an impressive performance in order to have a chance of retaining her NXT Women’s Championship.
Who Will Win the NXT Underground Match?
In two weeks, a match between two impressive women will take place in a unique match type. Vice has the clear advantage for a number of reasons. She’s trained in MMA, won every single NXT Underground match that she’s competed in, and feels like her title reign ended extremely early.
It makes sense why she was the one who chose the match. But Grey shouldn’t be taken lightly at all. Since last year, she has been impressive on both Evolve and NXT, beating every woman on each show and having two title reigns to show for it.
WWE sees her as the face of the NXT women’s division. Putting her in an NXT Underground match against Vice just months after getting called up from Evolve sounds like a disaster. But if she competes at the level that she’s been competing in, she’ll definitely retain her title. No matter who wins, Grey and Vice will give it their all in an intense NXT Underground match.
