Mel B reveals how she got married at St. Paul’s Cathedral like Princess Diana

Melanie Brown, also known to Spice Girls fans as Scary Spice, is marking one year of marriage this month. The singer recently shared more about the royal connection that made her July 2025 wedding at St. Paul’s Cathedral possible. Appearing on The Jennifer Hudson Show earlier this month, Brown said that it was being honored as a Member of the British Empire (MBE) in 2022 for her activism against domestic violence that granted her access to the Chapel of the Order of the British Empire at St. Paul’s, the same place where Princess Diana and Prince Charles exchanged vows in July 1981.

“Prince William gave me my MBE and was like, 'Where are the other Spice Girls?’” Brown told Hudson. “So because I had an MBE, I could get married at St. Paul’s where Princess Diana got married. Which is very posh and very royal. But because I am a little bit posh, but I’m also a little bit, you know, ghetto fabulous, I was like, I want to have a party!”

Brown recently spoke to The Telegraph about meeting both Prince William and Prince Harry when they were kids. “‘They were such cute kids,” she told the publication. “I can’t remember whether it was William or Harry who had a crush on Emma [Bunton AKA Baby Spice], but they were so polite and charming and gorgeous.”

Brown married Rory McPhee, 37, on July 5, 2025, in what was her third wedding. Of the Spice Girls, only Bunton attended the ceremony. Victoria Beckham, whose fashion house some fans had hoped would design the dress, was not present. (Although Brown did wear a Victoria Beckham dress for her MBE investiture in 2022.)

The wedding chatter comes as the Spice Girls mark another milestone in the group. Brown’s bandmate Melanie Chisholm, also known as Mel C, married her partner Chris Dingwall on Saturday—dressed in a champagne satin Victoria Beckham gown—giving the pop group two weddings to celebrate in the span of a year. Brown, Bunton, and Geri Halliwell Horner were all present to support Chisholm. Beckham was unable to attend, having a scheduling conflict with the 2026 World Cup final in New Jersey.
