GOP Rep. Carlos Gimenez is on the receiving end of some severe criticism after his comments on the casualties of the Iran war were criticized as insensitive and tone-deaf. The Republican Congressman’s statement came in reference to the deaths of two U.S. service members, namely Tyler James Feehan (25) and Isabella Gonzales (19), who were killed in Jordan while defending against Iranian drone attacks.
During his appearance on CNN’s The Lead on Monday, July 20, 2026, many social media users criticized Gimenez as lacking empathy while addressing the loss of young lives in the war waged by Donald Trump against Iran in coalition with Israel.
Carlos Gimenez’s Statement Deemed As ‘Heartless’ by Critics
The MAGA representative attempted to defend the objective of the war. He said, “My condolences go out to the families of our servicemen and women that are killed. That is the nature of warfare. We will have some casualties.”
The former firefighter argued that the U.S. has suffered relatively few casualties in accordance with a war of this mammoth stature. He said, “We’ve had an extraordinarily low number of casualties, uh, for the amount of fighting that’s going on. But it is war. We are waging war, and we’re waging it for a reason so that Iran can never obtain a nuclear weapon.”
The MAGA Congressman’s statements drew criticism on social media.
One of the social media users said, “MAGA has the most cold-hearted group of humans.” Another X user added, “These people are heartless.” Attorney George Suggs lashed out at Carlos Gimenez and wrote on Bluesky: “It’s sickening how Rep Gimenez talks about young people dying in a war as if their lives were not worth much. If you are going to spend our nation’s most valuable assets, you should make sure that’s the only choice you have. That’s certainly not true in this case.”
A social media user chimed in, “Just brush off needless loss of life like an [expletive], it’s Trump 101.” Comparing the MAGA staffers to “ghouls,” another user on X added, “Wow, so heartwarming. SMH. This regime is nothing but ghouls.”
Carlos Gimenez Faces Backlash Online
Another social media user bashed Gimenez and added, “This man talks about casualties and the nature of warfare in a callous, holier-than-thou manner. He never served. His broken logic starts from a false presumption of legitimacy. Widows, orphaned children, generations of their families and patriotic Americans will rain shame on all those responsible for starting this war. Students and military professionals worldwide wonder how much more damage the American people will tolerate before voting these people out.”
According to a report by The Daily Beast, since the conflict intensified following the collapse of the ceasefire agreement between the U.S. and Iran, the death toll of the American service members has risen to 17.
