Parents and caregivers are being urged to check their pantries after PT Organics Limited announced a voluntary recall of select Pumpkin Tree Peter Rabbit Organics Banana & Strawberry fruit puree pouches because of a packaging defect that could leave strands of soft plastic inside the product. The recall was published by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration on July 21.
The recalled pouches were sold nationwide at Target, Kroger and Meijer stores between March 6 and July 13, according to the company. The affected products are 4-ounce Pumpkin Tree Peter Rabbit Organics Banana & Strawberry fruit puree pouches.
"No injuries have been reported," PT Organics said in its recall announcement. The company also said no other Pumpkin Tree products, flavors or best-by dates are included in the recall.

Why are the fruit puree pouches being recalled?
PT Organics said the recall stems from an internal packaging defect that may result in "the presence of a strand of soft, food-grade plastic in the finished product."
According to the company, the issue originated with a supplier that recalled a production run of defective pouches last week. PT Organics said inspections later confirmed that a small number of finished products contained a strand of soft plastic attached to the inside of the packaging.
"The issue was linked to the pouch packaging itself rather than the fruit purée," the company said.
Which fruit puree pouches are included in the recall?
Consumers can identify the recalled products using the barcode, lane number and best-before dates printed on the back of the pouch.

The barcode, lane number and best-before date are stamped in black ink on the back of each pouch.
What should consumers do?
PT Organics said consumers and caregivers should check products against the identifying information listed in the recall announcement. Anyone who has a recalled pouch should not eat it or feed it to another person.
"Consumers or caregivers who have recalled product in their possession should dispose of it or return the product to the place of purchase," the company said. "It should not be eaten or fed to another person."
Has anyone been injured?
As of the recall announcement, PT Organics said no injuries had been reported in connection with the affected products. The recall was issued as a precaution after inspections confirmed the packaging defect and the possibility that soft plastic could enter the finished product.
