The Department of Justice is conducting a criminal investigation into Rep. Cory Mills (R-FL), according to two sources familiar with the matter.

The specific focus of the probe remains unclear, and both the DOJ and FBI declined to comment. However, a source told news outlets that FBI agents contacted at least one person last year regarding Mills’ finances, conduct, and associates.

The federal inquiry adds to an ongoing investigation by the House Ethics Committee. The panel is looking into allegations that include campaign finance violations, financial disclosure errors, sexual misconduct, improper gifts, and the misuse of congressional resources.

Reached by phone by MS Now on Tuesday, Mills said he was unaware of any federal inquiry. “This is the first I’m hearing about it,” he said, suggesting that any new probe likely stems from the Ethics Committee matter since the Federal Election Commission previously dropped its own campaign finance investigation.

Mills, who represents Florida’s 7th Congressional District, has denied all allegations of wrongdoing and refused calls to resign ahead of his Aug. 18 primary.

“I have no open cases, criminal and or civil, anywhere in any state across the country,” Mills told MS Now. “I have not been indicted and or accused of any type of financial fraud.”

House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., declined to take action against Mills, citing the ongoing ethics process. Separately, a Florida judge recently dismissed a opponent’s lawsuit seeking to remove Mills from the primary ballot over notarization issues, though the ruling is expected to be appealed.

Greg Bovino Complained About Lack of Prosecutions for Good and Pretti Killings

Prosecutors struggled to pick their jaws up off the floor on a phone call with Greg Bovino that took place between the fatal shooting of two U.S. citizens in Minnesota. “These people are wackos,” Bovino, 56, said of protesters in Minneapolis during the exchange. CNN reports that the call took place after the former Border Patrol chief’s agents had shot Renee Nicole Good, 37, dead in the street on January 7, and before they killed another...
