A Saginaw woman was killed Tuesday and two other people were seriously injured after an 87-year-old Bay City man allegedly drove across several lanes of traffic and slammed into an Asian restaurant.
Authorities said they were contacted after 2 p.m. about a Lexus crashing into Peter and Chia's House A Thai & Chinese Eatery on Bay Road, north of Vogue Road, in Saginaw Township.
The driver, a resident of Bay City, allegedly left a nearby body shop, crossed all the lanes of traffic on Bay Road, jumped the curb, and struck the restaurant's building. Images of the crash show the 2012 Lexus fully inside the structure.
According to Saginaw Township Police, three people were seriously injured — two patrons and a worker.
One of the patrons, a 65-year-old woman from Saginaw, died at the scene. The other victims, a 62-year-old patron and a 48-year-old worker, were removed from the wreckage by police and transported to nearby hospitals. Their condition was unclear Tuesday evening.
The driver, 87, and his passenger, 83, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to a local hospital.
The Saginaw County Traffic Crash Investigation Team is working with the Saginaw Township Police Department to determine the cause of the crash.
