NEWTOWN — The Newtown Police Department identified the person who died in a single-car crash on Mt. Pleasant Hill Road Tuesday as a Danbury resident.
Police responded to a call about a “vehicle traveling off of the roadway into the adjacent wooded area.” The crash closed Mt. Pleasant Hill Road near Saw Mill Road for a few hours. Richard J. Aronson of Danbury, was the driver and sole occupant the vehicle, police said.
Police located the vehicle deep in the woods off the westbound lane of Mt. Pleasant Hill Road. It had gone 40 feet down a steep embankment.
“Newtown Officers and members of Newtown Fire descended the steep embankment to render aid to any occupants of the vehicle,” the news release read.
The “vehicle had extreme damage to the passenger compartment” because of the crash, police said. Aronson was transported to Danbury Hospital where he was pronounced dead, according to police.
The crash is being investigated by the Newtown Police Accident Reconstruction Team in conjunction with the Newtown Police Detective Bureau, officials said.
Anyone who may have seen the crash or know anything about it is encouraged to contact Officer Barry Hyvarinen at the Newtown Police Department.
