Cynthia Nixon, the activist, LGBTQ+ advocate and actress best known for her role in “Sex and the City,” is heading to St. Petersburg’s Winter Pride to officiate a special event: “Bride Pride St. Pete — The World’s Largest All-Girl Wedding & Renewal Ceremony.”
The mass wedding and vow renewal takes place in the Grand Central District on Feb. 21 and is expected to draw lovebirds from across the world. If 100 couples tie the knot or renew their vows, the event will make it into the Guinness Book of World Records.
“At a time when visibility and community matter more than ever, Bride Pride creates a beautiful and joyful public celebration of love,” Nixon said in a statement. “I’m honored to help bring these couples together in such a meaningful and historic way.”
Bride Pride started in Provincetown, MA in 2016 as a giant, public display of love and support. St. Petersburg couple Ilene Mitnick and Allison Baldwin decided to bring the tradition to Winter Pride.
“With the world feeling increasingly polarized, choosing to celebrate love and community becomes even more meaningful,” Mitnick said in a statement. “We’re on a mission to create joy, build connection and remind people that love will always have the power to unite us.”
It costs $150 per couple to register for the event, which is also open to trans women. Couples who plan to get married will also need to pay $86 to secure a marriage license before the wedding.
