Austin suburb named No. 1 boomtown in America

Welcome to boomtown, y'all. Texas' domination on the national stage has reached new heights as the Lone Star State is home to a whopping seven out of the top 10 boomtown communities in America.

That's according to a new analysis from SmartAsset last month analyzing America's newest boomtowns, defined as communities that have rapidly been "attracting people, investment and development at a pace that sets them apart." SmartAsset reviewed more than 400 cities across the United States that were home to 65,000 or more people as part of their research, evaluating communities based on economic output, housing units and labor force sizes.

The top city? That title belongs to none other than Georgetown, a North Austin suburb whose housing units, labor force and real grass domestic product (GDP) grew by 34%, 34% and 7% between 2019 and 2024, respectively. 

Trailing closely behind was New Braunfels, a bustling city marrying together the San Antonio and Austin metros and home to a 40% jump in housing units, 32% increase in its labor force and a real GDP growth of 6.8% during the same five-year timespan.

2. New Braunfels, Texas
3. Lehi, Utah
4. Leander, Texas
5. Lewisville, Texas
6. Palm Coast, Florida
7. Nampa, Idaho
8. McKinney, Texas
9. Conroe, Texas
10. Frisco, Texas

While Texas swept the competition in the Top 10, a coastal rival eked ahead to earn the title as the No. 1 state home to the most boomtowns. That honor went to Florida, leading the U.S. with 19 boomtown communities compared to Texas with 18.
