My husband and I recently moved into our first home, which means I’ve spent a lot of time on Amazon (outside of my working hours as a shopping editor!) searching for oddly specific home items.
Tiny drawer organizers that somehow control the chaos in my bathroom sink drawer that’s shaped like a U? Found them on Amazon. A tray that prevents water from pooling around my kitchen faucet? Yep, needed (and found) that too.
Every item on this list has actually improved our daily routines and made it easier to settle into our house. What’s even better is that they’re all under $40, so these tiny upgrades don’t take away from the more important parts of your new home budget.

Vtopmart 25-Piece Clear Plastic Drawer Organizer Set
This 25-piece set of plastic drawer organizers has been purchased by over 40,000 people in the last month, and it’s not hard to understand why. They made it easy to corral an otherwise awkward drawer setup in my new bathroom. Small items have a designated compartment and no longer roll freely in the drawer.
The set comes with four different-sized organizers, so you can customize the layout in your drawers to work best for your toiletries. These aren’t limited to the bathroom either—I plan to use them in my office too!
SpaceAid Bamboo Pull-Out Spice Rack
The kitchen cabinet arrangement in my new home is slightly more limited than that in our old apartment, which compelled me to get my spice collection under control. This two-tier spice rack overhauled my spices, minimizing the amount of space they take up in a cabinet.
It took me about 15 minutes to assemble, and then I just slipped it right into my cabinet. The kit comes with screws for attaching it to the inside of your cabinet, but I opted to skip that step in case I decide to rearrange things. The pull-out sliders work well, smoothly retracting, and they’re not top-heavy when I pull a rack out while cooking. Just be sure you measure your cabinet before ordering.
Gorilla Grip Waterproof Silicone 28-by-22-Inch Under-Sink Mat
After discovering a leaky soap bottle in the back of our under-sink cabinet while packing, a silicone under-sink mat became a must-purchase. This mat from Gorilla Grip fits perfectly, and it lays flat with no ripples or kinks despite arriving folded in the shipping box. I love the grippy dots, which offer extra texture to hold my soaps, cleaners, and other essentials in place. This is another item that you’ll want to measure for before purchasing, but once you have it, leaks and busted cleaning bottles will be a concern of the past.
Eormoe Diatomite Faucet Mat for Kitchen Sink
I previously had a stainless steel sink with a lip around it, so I could rest my soap dispensers and dish brush without worrying about the counter getting wet. The kitchen countertop in our new home wraps around the sink, consequently getting wet while washing dishes or your hands, which is exactly why I bought this faucet mat.
The white diatomite stone is quick drying, preventing water from puddling near the handle of our kitchen faucet. It looks nice, too, which is always a plus. You can buy the mat in several lengths to cover the width of your sink, and four colors are available to match or contrast with your countertops.
Swiffer PowerMop Mopping Kit
My beloved Shark VacMop—Real Simple’s tested pick for the “Best Vacuum Mop”—recently died on me after four years, so I sprung for the Swiffer PowerMop (our “Best Budget Mop” pick from the same list) to mix things up. It’s been the perfect, quick-to-set-up replacement, and I honestly love that I don’t have to remember to charge it.
You can buy different mopping solutions, like a quick-drying option for wood floors, making it extra efficient for speedy cleanups. Even better: I’ve set up a recurring delivery on Amazon, so I never have to worry about running out of pads or solution.
Zevo Flying Insect Trap 2-Pack Kit
We had our door open all day while moving, which meant plenty of little bugs found their way inside, so these traps were one of the first things I set up in our new home. If you aren’t in on the secret or hype around these sticky traps, let me explain: They are the best money you’ll ever spend for eliminating annoying gnats from your home.
I recently had to purchase sticky refills for my trap, which reminded me of how much I love it (and how little maintenance it requires once you plug it in!). We keep one in our kitchen and another in our sunroom, so summer bugs are no concern.
Home TechPro 8-Pack Rug Pad Grippers
Got a lightweight runner rug or a smaller area rug that just refuses to stay in place? You’ll want this pack of rug pad grippers. My cat loves to skitter across our runner rugs and claws at the edge seams, but these hold the corners of the rug in place through it all.
They’ve lasted over a year on our rugs and are just now starting to lose a bit of their grip on the floor, so I’ll be repurchasing them soon. This will be my third pack of the grippers, and from experience, they’re a breeze to peel off the back of your rug and replace.
