With Spider-Man: Brand New Day about to premiere this summer, the Marvel Cinematic Universe is getting ready for its next big step. Given this, after months of waiting and half a dozen leaks and rumors, Marvel Studios finally released the first Avengers: Doomsday trailer. The clip is only 2 minutes and 25 seconds long, but it has been enough to hype the fandom with important revelations.
From particular fights and unexpected enemies to the confirmation of some of the most controversial leaks in the last months, the Avengers: Doomsday trailer has brought the fans back home after months of uncertainty. These reveals have viewers crafting theories, sharing their expectations, and, most importantly, very eager to see more.
The Leaks Were True
Any fan who has kept up with the many leaks and spoilers from the last year had already heard that Shang-Chi and Gambit would fight and that Mystique would transform into Yelena for a trippy battle against the Widow. The trailer has confirmed it’s all true, as both scenes — and many others with descriptions that have already made rounds on Reddit — are part of the clip.
Only time will tell if every single piece of information leaked is accurate, but so far, the trailer confirms Avengers: Doomsday will feature plenty of something fans love: hero-on-hero combat. Whether it’s New Avengers vs Avengers or Avengers vs. X-Men, MCU viewers love powerscaling. A crossover with so many heroes has tons of possibilities for fights among them, which fans love.
Talokan and Wakanda Will Get in Conflict
Around the 45-second mark in the trailer, as Thor gives his speech, fans can see Namor sitting on his throne with Black Panther and her allies around him. They all look determined but unfriendly. Suddenly, Shuri puts on her Black Panther mask and the Dora Milaje prepare to fight. As the shot opens, a group of Talokanil warriors is revealed. They’re obviously getting ready for a combat between both sides.
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever revealed that Namor planned to betray his alliance with Wakanda, so fans have been waiting for the other shoe to drop for a while. The Avengers: Doomsday trailer reveals that this film may be the one to see it happen. Amidst everything terrible happening in Avengers: Doomsday, Black Panther is likely going to have to deal with the consequences of trusting the morally ambiguous and dangerous Talokan leader.
Steve Rogers Is Still Worthy
Since Marvel Studios revealed Chris Evans would reprise his role as Steve Rogers in Avengers: Doomsday, fans have been debating whether this is a good or a bad idea. While some think Cap’s story in the MCU is over, others were ecstatic to see their favorite hero back. Now, the trailer has confirmed Steve is back — and not only that, he’s still a worthy warrior.
The trailer shows Thor and Steve meeting again for what seems to be the first time. A skeptical Thor observes his old friend and lets Mjolnir go towards him. Steve catches it effortlessly. The first time fans saw this happen in Avengers: Endgame was one of the coolest moments in the MCU. The fact that he can do it so nonchalantly now is even befuddling, but exciting nonetheless.
Sentinels Will Debut in the MCU
Perhaps the biggest revelation in the trailer takes place at the 1:29 mark. In this scene, Cyclops falls to his knees, shooting an uncontrollable laser beam from his eyes while something like a giant walks behind him. Fans have been quick to notice this is likely a Sentinel. This is a huge robot basically designed to exterminate mutants in the Marvel universe.
Fans are excited to see the X-Men in Avengers: Doomsday, but many worry they will be only supporting characters to the main MCU heroes. The Sentinels' MCU debut signals that there’s more to it. They will have an actual storyline or at least a good backstory, which is amazing. Add in the fact that the Cyclops scene looks a lot like Cyclops' iconic “I want this thing out of my lawn” moment, and it makes sense that the revelation has fans ecstatic.
Doctor Doom Can Actually Stop Thor
It’s a good thing that Doom will be an ally to the heroes — at least in the beginning — because he is obviously incredibly powerful. The Avengers: Doomsday trailer showcases his true might with an epic scene. At the 1 minute and 36 seconds mark, Thor actually tries to hit him with the Stormbreaker. Doom doesn’t even flinch as he uses telekinesis to stop Odinson.
Fans already knew Doom would be a lot to deal with, but the trailer confirming it has hyped them immediately. Doom controlling a literal god so effortlessly foreshadows what he’s really capable of. While Avengers: Doomsday may not show him as a full villain, Avengers: Secret Wars definitely will, so who isn’t excited for the end of the Multiverse Saga now?
