Prime Video subscribers will be entertained on the streaming service this weekend, as its selection of movies includes three films that will keep everybody on the edge of their seats. In last weekend's Prime Video movie recommendations, I talked about the star-studded adventure The Lost City of Z, the shocking thriller Love Lies Bleeding, and Ryan Gosling's epic sci-fi adaptation Project Hail Mary.
All three of those movies continue to be timely releases for Prime Video subscribers, with the first featuring Tom Holland and Robert Pattinson, two of the biggest stars of Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey, which is now playing in theaters. That said, of those three suggestions, only Gosling's fan-favorite Project Hail Mary continues to trend high on the streamer's movie charts.
Project Hail Mary is currently the most-watched movie on Prime Video in the United States. Because of that, I wanted to search for a sci-fi movie that viewers might enjoy as an alternative or a follow-up to Gosling's streaming sensation. As such, be prepared for a sci-fi thriller with absolutely stunning visuals that also deals with a catastrophe related to Earth.
That said, not all movies on the list are of the sci-fi genre. The other two entries are perfect for the horror fans that made films like Obsession and Backrooms become huge box office hits this year. One of them sees a group venture into an abandoned hotel and find supernatural beings, while the other has become a classic of the zombie genre.
Do Not Enter (2026)
Let's start this weekend's Prime Video movie recommendations with this straightforward horror movie. Do Not Enter was released in theaters on March 20, so if you missed it on the big screen, wait for the night to fall and get ready to be on the edge of your seat. Do Not Enter follows a group of explorers, the Creepers, who have the terrible idea of entering the abandoned Paragon Hotel and live-streaming it.
Of course, waiting for them in the dark are several supernatural threats, which lead to multiple bloody deaths and plenty of scares along the way. The movie is pure dumb horror fun for fans of the genre. With a young adult cast that includes names like Adeline Rudolph (Resident Evil, Mortal Kombat II), Jake Manley (iZombie, The Order), Francesca Reale (Stranger Things, Entergalactic), and more, viewers should be entertained.
World War Z (2013)
Continuing in the horror genre, but with a movie that is less about jump scares and more about action, World War Z is a horror thriller that has become a must-watch. Led by Brad Pitt in yet another magnetic performance, the movie plays like a shot of adrenaline, with Pitt's Gerry Lane, a former investigator for the UN, watching as a virus sends the world into disarray, with fast, bloodthirsty zombies taking over.
World War Z's zombies are the complete opposite of The Walking Dead's walkers, so fans of the genre that have grown used to the hit series' modus operandi will have to adjust. It is a thrill ride, with a search for the cure to the zombie virus at its center, or a way for humanity to survive at its center. World War Z is currently Prime Video's 7th most-watched movie in the United States.
Moonfall (2022)
Finally, after the success of Project Hail Mary on the streamer, I believe that those who have yet to discover Moonfall will have a good time with the film. While it is not on the level of Gosling's space epic, Moonfall also presents an intense story of how all life on Earth could end much sooner than imagined. However, in this sci-fi movie, it is because the planet will be hit.
An unknown force causes the Moon to fall towards the Earth, and that collision is set to destroy the planet. To save it, Patrick Wilson's Brian Harper, a former astronaut, Halle Berry's Jocinda Fowler, NASA's deputy director, and John Bradley's K.C. Houseman, a conspiracy theorist, team up to put the Moon back on its trajectory, dealing with an alien swarm complicating things. This is a wild movie, and an action-packed note with gorgeous visuals to end the weekend on Prime Video.
