Lionsgate's gritty horror thriller Do Not Enter had a fairly quiet run in select theaters, releasing simultaneously on digital with little fanfare back in March. It was recently made available for streaming on Prime Video, and it's now finally finding its audience.
Do Not Enter has been rapidly ascending the streaming charts on Prime Video in the handful of days since its arrival. It's now the No. 2 most popular movie that's streaming on the platform in the United States, according to FlixPatrol. It is only behind Ryan Gosling's big-budget sci-fi blockbuster, Project Hail Mary. However, it has knocked down Ruthless, The Sheep Detectives, and Moonfall. A continued rise in viewership may also soon enough see Do Not Enter officially claim the top spot.
Do Not Enter Finds Its Audience on Prime Video
Marc Klasfeld directed Do Not Enter, which was written by Stephen Susco, Spencer Mandel, and Dikega Hadnot. It is based on the original 2005 novel Creepers by David Morrell. The film adaptation's cast includes Jake Manley (A Dog's Journey), Adeline Rudolph (Mortal Kombat II), Francesca Reale (Stranger Things), Nicholas Hamilton (It Chapter One), Javier Botet (Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark), and Shane Paul McGhie (Deputy).
Do Not Enter is a supernatural horror flick that follows a group of explorers, known as the "Creepers," who livestream dangerous explorations of abandoned locations for their social media followers. Their latest stunt is a trek into the long-abandoned Paragon Hotel in New Jersey, which is rumored to be where a mobster hid $300 million somewhere inside. As a rival team of treasure hunters have also entered the building for the same reason, both come under threat of a terrifying supernatural creature that also stalks the old hotel's corridors.
Critics Didn't Like the Movie, Others Say It's Underrated
Critics were not very kind to Do Not Enter with their reviews. It has an audience score of just 23% on Rotten Tomatoes, given harsh criticism from the majority of viewers. With that noted, there are some reviews that say Do Not Enter is more entertaining than others are giving it credit for. It may not be a groundbreaking film, according to the reviews, but could make for a fun watch for horror fans looking for something different on Prime Video.
"It's actually great if you take it as a fun adventure," one audience review says. "Would appeal even more to younger teen audience. Not overly terrifying. Kind of like Stranger Things in the way it is lighter and less intellectual but fun and great characters and outstanding acting!"
And as another reviewer went on to state, "Honestly was a fun romp! Lots of 90s nostalgia and vibes."
