Budget carrier EasyJet sent a Liverpool-bound flight back to Tenerife after a fight broke out among the 186 passengers aboard on Tuesday evening. "About 10" people were reportedly involved in the brawl, half an hour after takeoff, leading the captain to turn flight EZY3352 around and request that police meet them after landing at Tenerife South airport.
No arrests were reported and the flight eventually took off again for the U.K. EasyJet didn't say whether the "disruptive passengers" were still aboard, but said its cabin and ground staff were trained to deal with such disturbances: "We take these incidents very seriously and do not tolerate disruptive behaviour towards our staff."
"Our full support goes out to the crews and passengers who are increasingly having to endure these situations," Spanish air traffic control told the BBC.
Sadly, no video has yet emerged of the incident, far from the first to grace an inexpensive EasyJet trip. A flight from Malaga that made the news last year offers an insight into the onboard atmosphere.
Flight U23382 to Liverpool was cancelled after three passengers from the inbound flight were escorted out of the jet bridge tunnel by police. Subsequently, the captain refused to continue the flight.
Passengers were due to leave the Spanish holiday destination at 11.25pm on Saturday night, but as they were queuing to board, passengers said they heard "shouting and screaming" from the plane. … "It was clear they were very intoxicated. After getting back to the desk, the captain told us there had been 'disruptive passengers and the incident had escalated'," Mr Holt added.
Gaynor Loguellou, from Greasby, who was due to fly back to Liverpool with her husband, daughter, in-laws and two grandsons, told the Echo that the captain said "my crew are traumatised, so we're cancelling your flight."
