The 2026 FIFA Men's World Cup was a bit of a breakout role for legendary men's soccer star Zlatan Ibrahimović.
The iconic soccer star, known for his time in Europe before finishing his career in the United States, served as a top analyst for Fox Sports. He worked alongside Rebecca Lowe, Thierry Henry and Alexi Lalas. Ibrahimovic was known for his brutally honest analysis and often sparring with Lalas, which fans enjoyed.
But, Ibrahimovic appears to be one-and-done when it comes to covering the World Cup for Fox Sports. He announced immediately after Spain's 1-0 win over Argentina in the final that he would not be returning to the airwaves.
Ibrahimovic suggested following the final match that he would not be returning.
“You made it easy for me. I hope, America, you enjoyed it as much as I did, and this is also my farewell to the studio,” Ibrahimović said at the end of Fox’s postgame coverage on Sunday evening.
“It is?” Lowe asked.
“This was the first and last time for me, so take care, everybody,” Ibrahimović continued.
"It has been an absolute pleasure to share this studio with you guys. You have made it very easy for me."
Not everyone is buying Zlatan's farewell, though
Is he really quitting or is this just a leverage play by the longtime European soccer star?
"Zlatan was the most enjoyable. I actually learned to appreciate soccer listening to him and then went to watch his highlights and learned more about him and the game. It's too bad he's leaving," one wrote.
"He understands leverage," one shared.
"He is a natural. Disappointed he’s not wanting more microphone time," one fan added.
