UNLV linebacker Jackson Woodard is one of 16 finalists for the William V. Campbell Trophy. As a member of the 2024 National Football Foundation National Scholar-Athlete Class Presented by Fidelity Investments, he will receive an $18,000 postgraduate scholarship.
The NFF and College Hall of Fame announced Wednesday morning the premier scholar-athlete award in college football, which annually recognizes the nation’s top student-athlete for academic achievement, football performance, and leadership. Woodard is the first UNLV player named a finalist and is the recipient of the General Robert R. Neyland Scholar-Athlete Award, endowed by the Haslam Family Foundation.
He opened the season as national defensive player of the week by both Walter Camp and the Bronko Nagurski Trophy after his performance in the win at Houston. This fall, he tied a school record by earning Mountain West Defensive Player of the Week three times. He ranks second nationally in interceptions and passes defended, and his 61 total tackles rank third in the conference.
Woodard’s Pedigree
He is the first UNLV football player to earn First Team Academic All-America honors. A two-year team captain, he was on the watch list for the Wuerffel Trophy and was the team’s nominee for the AFCA Good Works Team for his off-field contributions.
He was named one of 20 semifinalists for the Jason Witten Collegiate Man of the Year Award. Woodard graduated in May with a 3.77 GPA in kinesiology and is now pursuing a graduate certificate. He was an Academic All-Mountain West selection in 2023 and previously made the SEC Academic Honor Roll while playing at Arkansas.
