A Generation Z woman who had hoped to become friendly with her new neighbor has revealed the unexpected note she received instead, and why something as trivial as the weather appears to be causing concern.
In a post shared to Reddit’s r/apartmentliving community, user u/Logical-Classroom691 uploaded a photo of the letter she received from a neighbor who had moved into the building “a week or two ago.”
Rather than introducing herself or stopping by to say hello, the new resident wanted answers about her trash can. The note reads: “I was wondering why my trash can keeps ending up in front of your door? If you know anything, please feel free to stop by and explain.”
According to the Reddit user, the answer is far less dramatic than her neighbor may suspect.
In the post’s caption, u/Logical-Classroom691 explained that strong winds had been blowing through the area, repeatedly knocking over the trash can and sending it rolling toward her apartment entrance. As the two apartment doors are situated around six to eight feet apart, the bin naturally comes to rest near her doorway whenever it is blown across the walkway.
Finding humor in the situation, the poster shared the note online and asked fellow Reddit users whether they also found it “amusing.”

The situation has become even more awkward however, as her neighbor recently installed a Ring doorbell camera, apparently in an effort to determine what was happening to the wandering trash can.
While the Reddit user said she had no issue with doorbell cameras in general, the security device had left her feeling slightly uncomfortable.
“I don’t see anything wrong with Ring cameras, I have also been thinking of getting one, I’m sure she just wants to be safe,” she wrote. “However, is it wrong of me to be slightly annoyed that I’m filmed directly in front of my face every time I go in and out of my apartment all of a sudden because the wind blew?”
The lighthearted post certainly resonated with Reddit users. At the time of writing, it had attracted more than 10,000 upvotes and over 140 comments, with many commenters questioning why the neighbor assumed another resident was responsible rather than considering the windy conditions.
One Reddit user joked: “You should just draw a picture of the wind moving the trash can.”
Another user wrote: “I think this is just a very awkward attempt at a polite note. I wouldn’t think much of it, write back and let her know it’s just the wind.”
Others took a more skeptical view.
“Put your own camera up to be petty if you feel like it,” one commenter suggested.
A fourth person added: “This note is dumb. I most definitely find it entertaining, though lol. I would wait until I saw them in person to even acknowledge them.”
