Newlywed Gretchen Pleuss caught cyclosporiasis while camping at Yellowstone National Park, landing her in the hospital with a parasite mid-honeymoon.

We all have stuff that comes up in our lives that we file away in a keep-to-ourselves section of our brain. Having a horrible case of diarrhea that ruins your honeymoon isn't one of them.

That's a story you not only tell everyone, it's one that you run out and make sure the news is aware of. Otherwise, you're faking it through answering the question "how was your honeymoon?"

Nobody wants to put themselves in that situation. The moment you let it slip to one person that you had diarrhea so bad you ended up in the hospital, everyone is going to want to know about it.

Getting the news involved makes that far less awkward of a situation. Now, instead of your friends and family being the only ones who know that your marriage got off to a crappy start, the whole world can learn about it.

It's some personal housekeeping mixed with a public service announcement. Newlywed Gretchen Pleuss is the hero most of us aren't brave enough to be.

She caught Cyclosporiasis during her honeymoon at Yellowstone National Park and a couple of days into the camping trip was glued to the toilet with a bad case of the runs.

"It was just like incessant diarrhea. It was watery and constant," she told 12 WISN. "I felt fine until we got out here, and a couple days into camping here, I started having symptoms."

Pleuss' symptoms included stomach pain that got so bad it landed her in the hospital. That's where doctors confirmed that she had the Cyclospora parasite.

She wasn't about to let the incessant diarrhea keep her from trying to enjoy her honeymoon. Sure, it was ruined by constant trips to the bathroom and a visit to the hospital, but the couple was staying positive.

"It's still our honeymoon, so we're making the best of it," Pleuss said. "Our vows said in sickness and in health, so we're just getting an early start on that."

They're also getting an early start on having some stories to tell. For as long as they're married, they'll always remember their diarrhea-filled honeymoon, a marital test right out of the gate.
