Wisconsin Rep. Bryan Steil, who chairs a committee that oversees federal election law, says he gained insight on the extent that foreign intervention contributed to election fraud in the 2020 election, based on what President Trump revealed in his primetime speech last Thursday.
Steil, representative of Wisconsin's first district and Chair of the Committee on House Administration, said Trump's speech was the first time he had full clarity regarding China having obtained 220 million American voter files.
"The revelation by the President of the United States was the first time I had been fully made aware of this," Steil said on the Just the News No Noise TV show. "We do know that foreign countries do not want the United States to have successful, secure elections. That is pretty well known."
President Trump, in his speech on Thursday, said that beginning during the 2020 election cycle, China conducted what the administration believes is the largest compromise of election data in history.
"That information includes names, addresses, phone numbers, political party preferences and other sensitive data that would be needed to register to vote and engage in other nefarious activities," Trump said.
Steil said he believes America must continue pushing legislation related to election security.
"We need to move forward with election integrity legislation, not only just the SAVE Act, two absolutely critical components of election integrity, but we have to do more than that to make sure that we are securing U.S. elections for not only the upcoming election but also the presidential election, which is now just over two years away," Steil said on the Just the News No Noise TV show.
