When we first see Einstein, her pet parent admits the pup's beard is a little "crusty," and she's "smelling cheesy," equating the dog's wild-haired look to the real Albert Einstein and even Beetlejuice. Upon taking the doxie into the salon, her owner talks to the groomer about what the pup needs done before she goes off. A little while later, the furry friend comes running out looking fresh after a trip to the groomer, like a "classy lady" with ribbons in her hair while still sporting a more coiffed mohawk and beard that's often a signature trait of small wirehaired dog breeds.

Caring for a wirehaired dachshund's coat
Wirehaired dachshunds may seemingly have that naturally perfect "just woke up" look, but keeping their coats healthy and clean actually takes a bit of work. Weekly brushing is needed to help remove loose hair, debris, and knots, while a quick wipe of their beard after meals keeps food and other gunk from creating a tangled, stinky mess.
The biggest grooming rule for wirehaired dachshunds? Skip the clippers, as unlike many other dog breeds, these double-coated dogs shouldn't be shaved, as that can ruin their signature wiry texture. Instead, it's best to rely on a process called hand-stripping every few months, which removes shedding hair by hand so more coarse hair can grow in. However, groomers may still use scissors or other tools for fur on small areas like paws, ears, and those bushy eyebrows, as well as the breed's iconic beard that needs an occasional trim to prevent food and other debris from turning it into a matted, stinky mess.
Meanwhile, when it comes to bathing, less is definitely more, as wirehaired dachshunds typically only need a good dunk every three months because washing can strip away the natural oils that keep their coat healthy, weather-resistant, and wonderfully wiry. So, yes, a little dirt is part of the wirehaired dachshund aesthetic, but a good grooming session keeps them looking adorably charming instead of just unkempt.
