The cast of “Insecure” is hitting the road soon to commemorate the beloved HBO show’s 10th anniversary, stopping in various cities across the country to recap memorable moments and share little-known insights about the series. But there’s one person you won’t see take the stage: Amanda Seales. If you’re wondering why, allow us to break it down for you.
Seales played Tiffany on the popular series, one of the core four women in Issa’s friend group who was married and eventually had a child with her husband Derek (Wade-Allain Marcus). While Seales was present for all five seasons of the show, which ran from 2016 to 2021, her relationship with show creator and star Issa Rae began to sour in 2019, resulting in her storyline being sprinkled throughout the remaining seasons. But what exactly happened?
According to Seales, two incidents were responsible for the demise of their relationship. The first and most impactful one happened in 2019 at an Emmys party. As she explained on Shannon Sharpe’s “Club Shay Shay’s” podcast at the time, Seales arrived at the party, organized by Vanessa Anderson (Rae’s publicist), after receiving an invitation from Jesse Williams.

However, Seales was informed at the door that she wasn’t allowed in. Although she was eventually admitted, her attendance was cut short after Anderson sent multiple security guards to escort her out. Afterwards, Seales received a call from Rae, who tried to broker a conversation with Anderson. But when the conversation never took place, Rae allegedly explained it as being Seales’ problem, not hers.
The second incident occurred after the Emmy party incident, while Seales was filming with the “Insecure” cast and Rae was reading a TV show review to the group during a break. When Seales asked Rae about the contents of the review, the “Little” star allegedly snapped at Seales and got disrespectful. She alleged that Rae even tried to get physical with her, which ultimately became the straw that broke the camel’s back.
“That was the last day. Because I had taken so much weirdness for the past five seasons. And it was the last season. And I just said, ‘You know, what I don’t gotta take this no more.’ I don’t know who the f*ck you talking to. I don’t know why you’re even addressing me this way. I have never spoken to her again,” she said at the time.
Since then, Seales has addressed her non-existent relationship with the cast over the years, through various podcast interviews and posts on her own social media. Now, the news of the impending “Insecure” tour has brought Seales’ complicated relationship to the show and cast back into the spotlight. It also didn’t help that Seales decided to do her own version of the viral “Netflix documentary” TikTok trend, in which she portrayed her old character Tiffany.
The caption of the video? “Tiffany Dubois’ Netflix do About Not Being on the Insecure Tour.”
After posting it on her official Instagram, fans were quick to hop in her comments to question why, after all the negative things she’s said about the cast and Rae (like how the cast was being mean to her due to her issues with “The Photograph” star and Rae not being “empowering” to women), she should expect to get an invitation to the tour.
In her defense, Seales said she believes an invitation would be a step towards righting past wrongs, responding to one commenter: “Why is it so difficult for folks to grasp the concept of accountability being taken, an apology and an invite being extended is beyond me. When you do people dirty, you correct it.”
In another comment, she described the cast as “fake,” and said that there were “no amends” she needed to make as the “harm was [done] in one direction.” She later argued that Rae should’ve been the one to reach out to her after she aired out her grievances on Sharpe’s podcast, but didn’t.
