Opportunity is everything and for Eintracht Frankfurt defensive midfielder Noël Aséko Nkili, there was not going to be much at Bayern Munich.
As such, the 20-year-old opted to pursue the chance to transfer to Eintracht Frankfurt. So, how did the youngster figure out that he would not have much of a chance to play at Bayern Munich? Head coach Vincent Kompany told him per Bild (as captured by @iMiaSanMia):
Even though some of the people in charge rated him highly and would have liked to keep him, Vincent Kompany was very honest with Noël Aséko and made it clear to him that getting regular game time in Bayern’s midfield wouldn’t be easy. That’s why ultimately the player decided to join Frankfurt as his chances of playing time are much higher there
Aséko: “Why Frankfurt, and not Bayern? I was in very close contact with the coach and the board. We had very good discussions with both Frankfurt and Bayern. In the end, the coach [Kompany] and I had an honest conversation, and I was honest with him as well. That’s ultimately how the move to Eintracht came about.”
Based on that, it seems like Aseko Nkili had the expectation to be a regular, but Kompany could not guarantee it. In the end, it seems like good business for all involved and an amicable split.
