As preseason camp begins this week, Land-Grant Holy Land is diving into its final theme every week of the off-season. This week is all about taking stock of where the Buckeyes are compared to where they were. You can catch up on all of the Theme Week content here and all of our ”Then vs. Now” articles here.
With the start of preseason camp now just a few weeks away, for our article theme this week, we are looking back at previous Buckeye squads to compare them to the team that will be on the field this season. So, in this week’s fan survey, we want to know which position group you think has improved the most since last season.
Now, SB Nation’s polling technology only allows for six options, so I had to make some executive decisions on what would and would not be included. So, if the group you think should be No. 1 isn’t included, please feel free to write them in via the comment section at the bottom of the article.
So, take a look at the options below, then vote in the survey at the bottom of the article. Over the weekend or early next week, we will share the results, so make sure to check back in with us in a few days. And if you want to explain your rationale or add another option, head down to the comments and break it down.
Question: Which Ohio State position group do you think has improved the most since last season?
As we all know, the NFL Draft did quite the number on the Buckeyes’ roster from last season. While all OSU fans are proud of the guys that have matriculated to the next level, their departures have certainly created a lot of holes and openings on this fall’s depth chart.
However, as I mentioned above, I eliminated a handful of position groups to get under the six-option mandate. So, since the offensive line is essentially intact, they are not included. Same for the quarterback room. While there were some transfers in and out, it’s still Julian Sayin leading the way, so I took the QBs out. And then there was the running backs. I went back and forth over whether I should keep them or not, but when it comes down to it, Bo Jackson and James Peoples will still be RB1 and RB2 this year, regardless of what happened around them.
So, that means on offense, we are left with the tight ends and wide receivers. Then on defense, I combined things into the defensive line, linebackers, and defensive backs. And since it has been a major thorn in OSU’s side for the last few years, I included special teams as well.
