The 2026 FIFA World Cup final came to an end with Spain defeating Argentina, 1-0, at MetLife Stadium on Sunday in East Rutherford, N.J.

The only goal of the match came in extra time as Ferran Torres played the hero in the 106th minute. Spain’s incredible World Cup run ended with just one goal allowed, which came against Belgium.

Unfortunately, the highly-anticipated World Cup final between Argentina and Spain had plenty of controversial moments throughout the match.

Argentina was involved in plenty of dirty plays, and two of their players received red cards, with one coming after the match had come to an end.

For starters, Enzo Fernández, who was one of the heroes in the semifinal win over England, received his second yellow card, which resulted in a red and had him thrown out of the match.

After the match came to an end, Leandro Paredes shoved Spain’s Gavi, which ignited a bit of a brawl and led to a red card being given to Paredes.

There were plenty of other moments during this match between Argentina and Spain that raised eyebrows, mainly involving Argentina players.

Nicolás Tagliafico was involved in a couple of plays with Spain star Lamine Yamal, but again, no foul was called.

Argentina defender Lisandro Martinez was given a yellow card, and he subbed out shortly after due to an injury.

It was a frustrating match for Argentina, and the manager walked off after the loss. After Argentina’s win over Egypt, there were also questions due to some controversial moments in that match.

And now the World Cup final sparked plenty of questions, although Spain ended up pulling through with a win via a late goal in extra time. It spoiled Lionel Messi and Argentina’s chance at a World Cup repeat, and now they will wait until 2030 to get the trophy once again.
